About Devon By Bike
Devon by Bike is a personal cycling project built from years of riding Devon’s lanes, trails and tracks. From traffic-free estuary paths to hard days on Dartmoor, this site is about sharing real routes and honest advice – not ticking boxes or chasing miles.
I live near Exeter and spend most of my free time cycling around Devon. Some rides are planned, others are just seeing where the lanes go, but all of them shape how I ride – and how I write about cycling here.
Devon is an incredible place to ride a bike, but it can also be tough. The hills are steep, the weather changes quickly, and what looks easy on a map often isn’t. This site exists to help cyclists enjoy Devon more, with fewer surprises along the way.

Riding Devon, Not Just Writing About It
Most of the routes and advice on this site come from regular riding around Devon – especially from Exeter and out towards the coast and the moors.
Some routes I ride often include traffic-free paths for easy days, longer steady rides when I want time in the saddle, and harder routes when I’m happy to earn the views.
Simple List
The Exe Estuary Trail for relaxed, traffic-free riding
The Tarka Trail for long, steady days without traffic
Dartmoor routes when conditions are right and legs feel good
This mix of riding is what shapes Devon by Bike.
Why Devon by Bike Exists
Devon by Bike isn’t a business-first cycling site. It started as a hobby project built around riding, planning trips, and sharing routes that genuinely work.
The aim is simple:
Help people plan better cycling trips in Devon
Share routes that suit different bikes and abilities
Be honest about hills, weather and conditions
If something’s hard, it’s described as hard. If a route is great but demanding, that’s made clear too.
